Museums and Galleries Eastbourne has an interesting variety of museums and galleries.  Some are owned by Eastbourne Borough Council, while others are privately owned. We are also building a new cultural centre that will be completed in late Autumn 2007.

Redoubt Fortress & Military Museum -Welcome to the Redoubt Fortress & Military Museum Built in the early 1800s, the Redoubt has defended the Eastbourne coast for nearly 200 years. Today this magnificent building provides the perfect setting for the rich military collections of The Royal Sussex Regiment, The Queen's Royal Irish Hussars and the Sussex Combined Services. The Redoubt Fortress & Military Museum is now closed for winter refurbishment until Easter 2007.

Bandstand                                                                         Eastbourne’s first bandstand was built in 1893 and a Municipal Orchestra was formed in 1899. There is a commemorative plaque at the rear of the current Bandstand in memory of Eastbourne bandsman John Wesley Woodward, who was one of those playing on the Titanic when it sank on April 15 1912. The current Bandstand was built in 1935 and cost £28,000, engineered by Leslie Rosevere.

Magnificent Motors - Saturday 3rd May - Sunday 4th May 2008       Held every May Day Bank Holiday on Eastbourne seafront.
500 vintage and classic cars, motorbikes, buses, steam traction engines, commercial and military vehicles displayed on the seafront. French Market.

International Tennis Ladies Championships - Saturday 14th June to Saturday 21st June 2008
Held every June at the Devonshire Park

Eastbourne 999 Display - Saturday 5th July and Sunday 6th July 2008
The 999 display is held on the Western Lawns and Wish Tower Slopes. It is now the largest show of its kind in the UK.
The event is managed by an organising committee from the local emergency services and aims to raise awareness of the services that all these groups provide and to provide a fun and interactive day out for all the family.

Eastbourne Extreme - Saturday 19th July and Sunday 20th July 2008
Held every July or August on Eastbourne's Eastern Seafront
Inline and Artistic skating and Waterborne Activities.

Eastbourne Lammas Festival - Friday 1st August to Sunday 3rd August 2008
An extravaganza of folk music and morris dancing including a Carnival parade with traditional Giants.
Held every August around Eastbourne seafront and town centre; with live music and stalls all day plus a traditional barn dance (ceilidh) for all.

Eastbourne's Airbourne - August 2008 ? - awaiting details
The biggest FREE airshow in the UK returns this year with four days of action packed flying on Eastbourne seafront. Up to 650,000 people are expected to attend and provisional flying displays will be available soon.

Eastbourne Victorian Festival - Saturday 27th September to Saturday 4th October 2008
Held every October at venues across Eastbourne
A week of events with groups, organisations, schools and individuals celebrating the Eastbourne of Victorian times. Includes theatre, music and children's activities.

Eastbourne Beer Festival - Thursday 9th to Saturday 11th October 2008
Held every October at the Winter Garden
Beers, Ales, Wine and Ciders from around the world with food tastings and daily entertainment

Feastbourne -
Held every October at the Winter Garden and other venues in Eastbourne
A new food and drink festival with a wide variety of events running over 10 days

Beachy Head Marathon - Saturday 25th October 2008
Held every October across the South Downs coast and countryside.
1,750 runners, joggers and walkers participate in this challenging event

Walks - The Eastbourne Downland is a wonderful environment for walking and rambling and many areas are open access, free for the public to explore. There are four farms - Bullock Down Farm, Black Robin Farm, Chalk Farm and Cornish Farm - where access is restricted but there are footpaths and bridleways to guide walkers through these areas. The Eastbourne Downland can be accessed by a coastal footpath or the inland bridleway.
