Museums and Galleries - Eastbourne has an interesting variety of museums and galleries. Some are owned by Eastbourne Borough Council, while others are privately owned. We are also building a new cultural centre that will be completed in late Autumn 2007.
Redoubt Fortress & Military Museum -Welcome to the Redoubt Fortress & Military Museum Built in the early 1800s, the Redoubt has defended the Eastbourne coast for nearly 200 years. Today this magnificent building provides the perfect setting for the rich military collections of The Royal Sussex Regiment, The Queen's Royal Irish Hussars and the Sussex Combined Services. The Redoubt Fortress & Military Museum is now closed for winter refurbishment until Easter 2007.
Bandstand Eastbourne's first bandstand was built in 1893 and a
Municipal Orchestra was formed in 1899. There is a commemorative plaque
at the rear of the current Bandstand in memory of Eastbourne bandsman
John Wesley Woodward, who was one of those playing on the Titanic when
it sank on April 15 1912. The current Bandstand was built in 1935 and
cost £28,000, engineered by Leslie Rosevere.

Eastbourne Half Marathon - awaiting dates for 2012 We are already counting down to the 2012 event - planned to be even bigger and better than last year. Following the hugh success of last years the event raised over £75,000* for local charities and this year aims to add to this further.
Magnificent Motors Returns

Magnificent Motors returns to Princes Park from Saturday ?? to Sunday ?? May 2012.With 25,000+ visitors flocking to the show in 2011, it has become
established as one of the biggest FREE motoring spectaculars on the
South Coast. More than 500 vintage and classic cars, motorbikes, buses, steam
traction engines, commercial and military vehicles displayed on
Eastbourne's elegant promenade and seafront. Other attractions included a French Market and funfair rides. Plus there was a seafront cavalcade on both days.The event is organised by Eastbourne Borough Council, in partnership
with Eastbourne Historic Vehicle Club, East Sussex Omnibus Society plus
a variety of other historic transport groups.
AEGON International Tennis Championships in Eastbourne - June 2012 Held at the Devonshire Park,
Eastbourne. After a record breaking year, the AEGON International returns to
Eastbourne in June 2012 with both mens and ladies world class
tennis. Ekaterina Makarova and Michael Llodra won the ladies and the men's
singles titles at the AEGON International 2010, defeating Victoria
Azarenka and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez respectively.
Eastbourne 999 Display (awaiting confirmed dates for 2011)
The
999 display, which will be held on the Western Lawns and Wish Tower
Slopes in July in Eastbourne is now the largest show of its kind in the UK.
The
event is managed by an organising committee from the local emergency services
representing:
Sussex Police East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service South East Coast Ambulance Service Maritime and Coastguard Agency the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution)
represented by Eastbourne Lifeboats
The
aim of the event is to raise awareness of the services that all these groups
provide and to provide a fun and interactive day out for all the family.
Eastbourne Extreme July 2012
Eastbourne Extreme is one of the biggest FREE extreme sports
festivals in the UK. Featuring a huge line up of air, land and water
based outdoor pursuits, it takes place over 2 days on Eastbourne's
Eastern seafront from 10am to 5pm each day. Attractions Take advantage of free have a go taster sessions, see exciting demonstrations and cheer on national competitions from: UKWA windsurfing Thundercat Powerboat Racing Sailing at Spray Watersports Centre Jet ski displays Seated rowing In-line Skating displays BMX bike displays including the Animal Relentless Bike Tour Urban Shadows Parkour (free running) Land yachting Kite Buggies, Kite Flyers and Kite Surfing VW Bus Stop tour
Also features EBM Live music event on the Extreme stage, plus shops, food stalls and children's rides.
Eastbourne Lammas Festival - awaiting dates for 2012 An extravaganza of folk music and morris dancing including a Carnival parade with traditional Giants. Held every August around Eastbourne seafront and town centre; with live music and stalls all day plus a traditional barn dance (ceilidh) for all.
Eastbourne's Airbourne Air Show - 11 - 14 August 2011 The dates of the World's biggest FREE seafront airshow have now been
confirmed as Airbourne returns again to Eastbourne seafront for four
days from 11-14 August 2011. Eastbourne's Airbourne is the biggest
FREE seafront airshow in the world !

Go Fast Eastbourne Speed Days - (Awaiting Dates for 2011) Go Fast! Speed Days promises extreme speeds of 60mph in Eastbourne's
newest adrenaline-fuelled event as downhill skateboarders, luge racers,
inline skaters and gravity bikers race down the super fast road at
Beachy Head. This year the event will take place in August and
organisers hope to see even more spectators pack onto the Downs to
witness the downhill racing spectacular.New paragraph
Eastbourne Beer Festival - October 2011 (awaiting dates for 2011) 9th Annual Beer Festival held every October at the Winter Garden Beers, Ales, Wine and Ciders from around the world with food tastings and daily entertainment.
Beachy Head Marathon - 22 October 2011 The Beachy Head Marathon is one the biggest off-road
marathons in the UK. Formerly known as the Seven Sisters Marathon, it
is popular for its scenic and challenging route through the South Downs
countryside. Great for runners, joggers or walkers looking to get fit.
Walks - The Eastbourne Downland is a wonderful environment for walking and rambling and many areas are open access, free for the public to explore. There are four farms - Bullock Down Farm, Black Robin Farm, Chalk Farm and Cornish Farm - where access is restricted but there are footpaths and bridleways to guide walkers through these areas. The Eastbourne Downland can be accessed by a coastal footpath or the inland bridleway.
